Maybe your kitchen just needs an update. Or maybe you need an entirely new kitchen. If you've got a long list of kitchen issues, consider getting a complete remodel. If you do redo your kitchen, here are a few things to consider:
Pay personal attention. Don't rely on swatchbooks or paintchips when choosing colors. Be sure to personally preview every color you choose before you end up painting or installing in your home.
Choose cooking areas carefully. If you like to cook, pay special attention. Be sure to allow at least 12 inches of space on each side of the range, using a heat-resistant material if possible. Also, if possible, avoid placing ovens (including microwaves) above eye level.
Let the sun in. Let sunlight into your kitchen and you'll want to spend a whole lot more time in there. A traditional above-the-sink window is fine, but consider other locations: above wall cabinets, or between countertops and cabinets.
For a personal touch, consider add-ons. Added touches, like slide-out storage racks, pull-out cutting boards and bar handles for drawers can add both personal style and convenience to any kitchen.
If you're going to do a complete remodel, do it right. Think through all the details before you get started. Consider: are you allowing for enough counter space? Is the dishwasher close to the sink? What kind of oven do you really want, gas or electric?
